My First Valentine

Last Valentine's Day Hill was a month and 2 days old.  Just having him in my life was the best Valentine, and still is.  Yet, this morning I dropped Hill off at school and he had made me a special Valentine!  I'm pretty sure I have the cutest most sweetest Valentine on the block!

The outside of the Valentine Card

Open it up and there is my Sweet Boy!
I'm such a lush.  I cried...tried not to read it as I'm walking out of the daycare so people wouldn't see my happy tears as they welled up.  How thoughtful and special of his teachers.  We sure love you girls!

Cooking On The Farm

Since Hill and I were a little under the weather we didn't get to go play at the Warrington's for the Super Bowl party last Sunday.  So, we cooked all afternoon.  We made so many fresh foods with fresh meats and veggies from the farm.  Hill is quite the master chef, he gets that from his daddy.
Here is a taste of what all Hill cooked up for us.

Here is Little Chef  Boy-ar-Hill on the farm trying
to figure out what fresh foods to cook first

Here is his cooking pot.
It cracks me up because it sings and sizzles.
(His voice reminds me of Andy Samburg from Saturday Night Live)

Here we have a fresh tomato and beef medley
Delish!

Then there is always the horse and pea soup.
Which is great to stick in the freezer for those cold winter nights.

Then he simmered a mixture of meats and veggies.
I think he was making the authentic Spanish dish of paella.
In paella you generally put a little bit of everything in it.

This is my favorite gourmet meal of the day -
fresh goat cheese over steamed broccoli
YUM-o!

Silly pot head!
I do hope that Hill gets his daddy's creative cooking skills.  For those of you that don't know, I can't tell you the last time I've cooked a meal.  Chip is the cook at our house and he loves it....as do I!  I can only hope that Hill enjoys the art of cooking as much as his daddy.  Sure is a way to a womans heart!

X, Drugs & Rock n' Roll

My blog is titled No Really....This Is My Life for a reason.  All in one day this is what happens to us.

We had to have X-rays done to make sure Hill doesn't have pneumonia again.  He doesn't, he has bronchitis, but the X-ray process was too humorously sad to not make a photo op out of.  I'm a mean ol' mommy and as my son is crying, stuck and uncomfortable what do I do?  Ask if I can take pictures.  If the xray person were anyone else but Sukie (who takes photos of both our insides and outsides) I may not have taken the pictures....but I knew she wouldn't think less of me for doing so.

PLEASE!  Someone help me!
So after the doctor visit for both me and Hill we get sent home with tons and tons of drugs.  We've decided that at the doctors office we have our own suite since we are there so often.  It's called the Hillton.  Then we've taken it upon ourselves to name the new addition to the 'pharmacy area / drive trhu' at our local pharmacy the Hawkins wing.

My stash is on the left and Hill's stash is on the right
Then once we got home we found our drumsticks and played a little rock n roll.

Big Top Kosciusko

The circus came to town!  The circus came to town!  The other day I went to a local fast food joint and saw that Thursday, February 3rd the circus would be coming to town.  Since I still consider myself a new mom I had to ask around to see what it was all about before Chip and I ventured into the unknown.  I knew it would be second rate.  By no means a Barnum and Bailey act.
So since Hill hasn't been to the big circus yet, I figured he wouldn't know the difference because this one would have dogs instead of lions and a kangaroo instead of elephants.  I have to admit I was a little nervous.  I didn't know what to expect, but Chip and I agree it was way better than we expected.  It was entertaining enough that we will probably take Hill again next year.  He loved it.

Waiting for the circus to start

The circus ring

Hill ready for the show to start!
They let the kids sit at the edge of the ring to watch

The Amazing Victor
(it was pretty amazing because they didn't have mats
underneath if he fell)

Watching The Amazing Victor

Reina and her monkey
(For those of you non spanish speakers, Reina means Queen)
I guess she was the queen of the monkey?

Whoa, Monkey he got close to us!

The monkey climbing on the curtain

Mom, did you see that?

The Amazing ?? was balancing on this board on a rolling thing
(All the performers are "The Amazing" something)

In a trans

Juggler
Hill loved him.  When he juggled the balls...
What did Hill say?  Baahhhh!!

My sweet boys

Balancing a sword with breakables on the end by the
tip of a dagger in his mouth.
I think this guy was Chip's favorite.  He said he'd be a great
guy to have at parties to do tricks.

The Clown, who was also
"The Amazing Victor"

Reina and her Amazing Dogs
Of course Hill liked the dogs too

The Amazing 'I couldn't pronounce her name'
She spun on the rope and did tricks.

Wow!

Ok, folks.  This is where it gets serious.  They brought out this kangaroo.  His name was Jack.  Now, I don't guess I've ever seen a kangaroo up close, but they are weird.  I'm an animal lover but a kangaroo is just an awkward animal.  I think their shoulders goob me out because it's like a backwards shoulder blade arms or something.  I know that makes zero sense, but I have no idea how to explain it.  I will say I haven't laughed that hard in a long time and neither had Chip.  I think Hill was just as perplexed as I was.  They brought Jack out to fight with the clown in a boxing ring.  Strange.  Yes.  Entertaining.  Yes.  I could probably watch it all day in one of those train wreck can't look away type of ways.

I feel sorry for the kangaroo, where does he sleep?  Do they just play fight with him all the time or can he watch tv with them in their hotel room?  Where does he go to the bathroom?  Does he have friends other than the monkey or dogs?  I'm just so confused about this kangaroo.  He's so strange.  Is that why he's a part of the circus?  Do all kangaroos look that strange?  I have so many questions about him and his life.  I guess I'll never know.

We had such a Big Time at the Big Top that I don't think Hill made it out of the parking lot before he was out like a light.  What a great family night!  Now see, there can be fun entertaining things to do in The Land of Koz.

Week from H- E- Double Hockey Stick

I'm pretty sure everyone in the Hawkins family will agree that they can't wait for this week to be over.  Monday started off ok, then he decided to play hookie by throwing up at school.  So Monday he played and played and we made blueberry muffins and ate them all and got our Valentine Day cards ready for our classmates.
My little love muffin

Yum! Blueberry Muffins!
Tuesday we followed our normal routine and I took him to school at 8:00 only to find out that I couldn't bring him back until 24 hours after he'd last thrown up.  So his daddy came to my office and picked him up and kept him for 2 hours until he could go back to school at 10:00.  He went to school and had a great day. Then....

Wednesday rolled around.  I get a call that his eyes are boogery and he needs to go to the doctor.  So I pick him up and take him to play with his Nana (Chip's step mom) for a few hours until I got out of my meetings and then I took him to the doctor at 1:30.  Dr. Carter is a silly guy and Hill is a silly little boy so you put those two together in a room and it's a Silly Fest!  Hill was slinging his sippy cup around in his mouth to entertain Dr. Carter and Dr. Carter was humoring him on.  Boys, boys boys, I swear.  Good thing we had Mrs. Leigh Ann, our trusty nurse and neighbor around to keep them in check.  So, after Silly Fest 2011 Hill was diagnosed with conjunctavitis (aka pink eye.)  Which is really weird because his eyes aren't pink he just has boogery eyelashes.

It was so funny...Dr. Carter was explaining to me the meds he was going to give Hill and why -- the whole time Dr. Carter was talking Hill was shaking his head yes, yes, yes, as if he was in total agreeance.  Then Dr. Carter got to the eye drops and Hill shook his head no, no, no.  The kid doesn't even know what eyedrops are but sure did know that he didn't want them!  So we have $50 worth of meds to clear up everything and Hill was right about the eye drops, they are zero fun to put in.  Hopefully all will clear up and he can't go back to school Friday.
Do you see a pattern?  He's been out everyday this week.  Some of us have to work Hill Hawkins!  Ok, well let me rephrase that ... Your daddy needs to work Hill Hawkins!  Chip has been tending to Hill's every need and is the best Dada around.
So, since he was at the doctor for the second time in less than a month I figured why prolong his 12 month shots?  He's obviously never going to be 100% not sick so here you have it.... The proof that I'm the meanest mama this side of the Mississip' - - the after 3 shots in my legs photo...so so sad.

So, to make the best of his Boogery Eye Skip Day...this morning I noticed how bad he needs a haircut.  His thin little hairs fall over his eyes and I'm sure get caught up in his boogery lashes.  NO!  I didn't cut his hair.  I simply pinned it back.  Like a little girl.  His daddy was not happy that I took these pictures as he knew I would blast them all over the internet for the world to see my little boy wearing a clip in his hair.  Sorry daddy-o.  Get your own blog!

Holding onto the hair brush and posing for a picture
with my hair clip holding his hair back
(yeah that's his Christmas PJ's we don't descriminate,
we wear Christmas PJ's year round)

Then he found my headband and tried to pull
his hair back that way.

That lasted like 2 seconds.
Hopefully he will be eye booger free tomorrow, Friday, and can have a full day of school with no vomit or eye boogers or whatever random ailment decides to rear its ugly head.  It's so weird, his eye boogers don't mat his eyes together, they just make little booger balls on his eye lashes.  Was that TMI (too much info)?

Anyway, pray for my little bugga boos speedy recovery.  Not too sure how much more we can take of this!

Wagons & Bluegrass

So, Saturday January 29th was awesome!  Awesome weather, awesome outside time, just awesomely awesome.  It was warm out so Chip, Hill and I threw on our shorts and tshirts and headed out to the Country Club to tool around.  Chip wasn't feeling 100%, but with the great weather he couldn't miss out!  So he wanted to put his fishing boat in the water and run it after the winter and Hill and I loaded up the wagon and I pulled him on the dirt road around the lake.  The boy loves his wagon, but seriously LOVES his wagon outside.  Here are a few pictures of him being too cool for school.
all pictures were taken with my phone so they aren't of great quality

Later Saturday night Hill and I had a date.  We went to the 7th Annual Attala County Bluegrass Concert.  Here he is in his boots and jeans and adorable jacket with his toothbrush in his mouth. (Daddy stayed home)

It was a great time and Hill, being the dancing machine he is, danced and danced to Nash Street.  Well, I say Hill and I had a date, but I'm 100% sure that he had his eye on a sweet cute girl all night...the little flirt has a crush on Hollee Cheek.  I swear.  A special thanks to Hollee for letting Hill stare and flirt with you all night.  I'm sure Taylor was getting a bit jealous.  For those of you that don't know Hollee, she's not Hill's age.  She's close to my age, but younger, and cuter, and pretty.  Hill loves him some Hollee.  I wish I had taken pictures, but I didn't really know if I could while the concert was going on.
Hill also had a great time playing with Greyson Kyle and Tanner Pettit.  Greyson is so sweet, he told Hill that he was a pretty baby.  Tanner is always fun too, he and Hill ate puffs and gave hugs to each other.  Hill would grab onto Tanner and squeeze.  Tanner would say "Let go of me!"  Then turn around and give Hill a little lovin.  They are so funny.

At about 8:15 pm we left the concert and went to a candlelight prayer vigil for a local woman, Vickie Ellington, who has been missing since Thursday.  My heart is so heavy and my mind is so shocked that something like this would happen around here in Kosciusko.  Vickie is a customer of mine, she's in Rotary with me, and a local business owner.  It's very uncharacteristic for her to have just disappeared, especially since she is the caregiver to her second grade grandson.  My mind just can't comprehend any scenario of her missing.  Please keep her family in your prayers and pray for guidance for the law enforcement in her search.

Then Sunday it was a rainy day.  Total opposite of what Saturday was.  We stayed inside all day and watched TV and played.  Here is Hill sitting in his big boy chair eating pretzels and drinking juice with his pillow pet.

Wish all weekends were this fun!  I can't wait for warmer weather!
